The old town of Zarnesti was documentary attestationed in 1367, town Tohan being certified documentary
in 1294. Due to the diversity of the relief forms and the territory around the village practice trades linked agriculture and Livestock were the main bussiness of zarnesti people until several tens of years. The industrialization of the town began around 1800 years, the foundation manufactures, then a paper factory (1852), subsequently Celuloza (Celohart - EcoPaper) (1889), Arms factory (March 6) in the year 1936 and then by great industrialization years after 1950. This has made the locality type to migrate from rural to a predominantly urban one. Now Zarnesti has a population of aprox. 26,000 people and one of the main bussiness is now the tourism . Being a city situated at the foot of the mountains, with a wonderful view, the town of Zarnesti has great opportunities for tourism development with this nearby mountains, virgin forests, wild fauna,unique flora, traditional and organic food and especially people hospitality whose hospitality no one can find only here. Zarnesti town consists of several districts, 3 with blocks and rest with houses, some so old that you think that time has stopped in place when, just beside them. Some old churches, a museum, the old streets still present in some areas, the looks and the people's old clothing untouched since urbanization, bring us still remember the traditions of once, transcribed today in the new town of Zarnesti. Pensions and holiday houses have made place in the downtown area of Zarnesti, tourism has more power with the Piatra Craiului Mountains near,a mountain where a few tourists were visiting in the communist era, everything started to attract more tourists with its beauties of all kinds. Nevertheless the city has grown considerably, lack of employment is no longer a major problem, how was after the closing of large factories in the locality, local government has succeeded in making a city of Zarnesti clean, safe and with tomorrows day hope !
